During YES!, a Youth Environment Summit hosted in October 2006 by Alberta Environment, youth from across Alberta said they had ideas for environmental projects in their community, but they needed some help to make them happen.
The Youth Environmental Stewardship (YES) Grant Program was created to provide that help - enabling Alberta Youth to turn ideas into action.
What kind of projects could a YES Grant be used for?
Examples of projects that a YES Grant could support:
- creating a recycling program in your community.
- cleaning up a creek or natural area.
- educating people in your community about alternative transportation
- demonstrating to people in your community the benefits of composting and pesticide free yards
- investigating an issue, exploring possible solutions and communicating what you've found out to people in your community.
- and many other creative ideas!
How do I apply for a YES Grant?
Only a limited number of grants will be awarded. To be considered for a grant, you must complete and submit an application to Alberta Ecotrust Foundation.
Where does the money for a YES Grant come from?
Alberta Environment is contributing $150,000 over three years for youth environmental projects through the YES Grant Program. In the future, other organizations may contribute funds to this program.
What is Alberta Ecotrust Foundation?
Alberta Ecotrust is a charity that has been providing grants to non-profit organizations in Alberta since 1991. Every year Alberta Ecotrust provides funds to many different organizations that are undertaking initiatives in Alberta to preserve and protect the environment.
