Communities established in important wildlife habitat regions are challenged with
balancing the benefits of healthy wildlife with the need for public safety. Negative
encounters between people and wildlife may result in people suffering injuries or
fatalities and wildlife being relocated or killed outright.

Bow Valley WildSmart is a collaborative community program that addresses the need to proactively manage human-wildlife interactions to reduce negative impacts on wildlife and increase community safety. Funding from Alberta Ecotrust will enable Defenders of Wildlife to contribute to the Bow Valley WildSmart program by undertaking education programs in the region and collaborating with the Friends of Kananaskis Country's Wildlife Ambassador Volunteer Program.
