Friends of Jasper National Park
Visitors from Alberta and beyond consider Jasper's wildlife viewing opportunities to be world-class. Unfortunately, illegal poaching of "trophy" animals threatens the future of the animals that the park is so well known for.
Cooperating with Parks Canada and with the help of over 30 volunteers, Friends of Jasper will collect data on the charismatic roadside wildlife in the park, increasing understanding of the park's wildlife populations and providing forensic information with which to prosecute poachers.
A portion of the Alberta Ecotrust community grant will allow this information to be used further to create materials for Jasper's junior and senior high school students, moving youth beyond recreation and towards active ambassadorship of Jasper National Park.
