M.E. LaZerte High School Eco-Station
|
M.E. LaZerte High School (Edmonton)
High
School students want to recycle, but they are somewhat limited by their relative inaccessibility
to transportation. Students are interested in recycling
batteries, ink cartridges, CDs and small electronic devices. However, they tend not to recycle these materials because it is inconvenient for them to drive to
their local eco-station or retail store to deposit recyclable materials.
The
grant will be used to develop a central "eco-station" at a convenient location
in the school that can be used by staff and students alike to recycle bottles,
paper, batteries, ink cartridges, CD's, and small electronics. Through daily
announcements, staff education and a poster awareness campaign, the students
and staff will increase awareness of environmental issues and increase the amount of materials that are recycled.
Implementing a recycling program at M.E LaZerte High School will
reach beyond the staff and students to the thousands of individuals – parents, friends, relatives, colleagues – indirectly connected
to the school through the community.
