The Green Calgary is a not-for-profit organization that empowers Calgarians to create healthy homes and communities by providing environmental education, products and services. Green Calgary’s vision is to see citizens of Calgary as world leaders in urban environmental sustainability. The organization endeavours to play a significant role in bringing this vision to fruition in five to seven years.

From its beginnings in 1975, Green Calgary has proven to be a strong and proactive environmental organization that has focused on a range of issues affecting the local community, from waste reduction through reuse and recycling to water, air and noise pollution. In the 1990s, Green Calgary continued to conduct programs geared to creating a clean and healthy environment in Calgary, with ever increasing emphasis on education and awareness.

Some of these programs included: The Great Paint Exchange, The WINshop (Waste It Not Shop) and the Master Composter/Waste Advisor program. Throughout its 30+ year history, Green Calgary has provided information on everything from recycling locations to practical ideas about leading an environmentally friendly lifestyle.

Currently, Green Calgary operates the Eco-Store, offers educational programming for students and the public about composting, vermicomposting, recycling and water conservation, and assists companies throughout Calgary to divert industrial, commercial and construction waste going into the landfill through the Calgary Materials Exchange.
