Protection of an Environmentally Sensitive Area

Edmonton and Area Land Trust

The Edmonton and Area Land Trust (EALT) has an opportunity to acquire a gift of ecologically significant lands in the Glory Hills west of Edmonton. As a relatively new organization, however,  EALT lacks the capital to pay for all of the upfront costs of acquiring and managing the gift under the requirements of Environment Canada's  Ecogift program.  The Alberta Ecotrust funding will allow EALT to cover those costs and thus establish itself as an active, credible land trust. The acquisition will provide not only protection for ecologically important habitat, but provide opportunities for EALT to engage volunteers and stakeholders in the ongoing assessment and management of the land.
