Green Calgary

In order to compel the major shifts in human beings' treatment and interaction with the environment   reducing energy and water use; reducing waste, pollution, and contamination; preserving and creating natural bounty   that are necessary for the survival of our species and web of life, people of all ages need access to information that is relevant, accurate, and motivational.  Green Calgary plans to undertake a thorough review of their existing environmental education programs, to shift towards providing greater experiential learning.  With a revitalized and refocused education mandate, Green Calgary will be leading Calgarians to a greener way of living.

RESULTS

Green Calgary entered their grant year facing many of the financial constraints typical of nonprofits during the economic downturn - their operations were extended beyond what revenues could support.  This forced them to focus on core operations, and become strategic about their program delivery - exactly what this grant sought to achieve.

Despite what was a fiscally challenging and resource-strapped year, Grean Calgary reached nearly 5,700 participants which in itself is a significant accomplishment, to say nothing of the impact those programs had on the participants! Moreover, by transitioning to a new delivery model and introducing their Sustainability Series, they designed a more cost-effective approach to Environmental Education.
