| Nov 6, 2002, Calgary, Alberta – Alberta Ecotrust Foundation is pleased to announce the first private gift of $250,000 to the Kananaskis Summit Environmental Legacy Fund for the Rundle wildlife project in Canmore. Alberta Ecotrust created this fund in June as a partner of the G8 Environmental Legacy.
This anonymous donation, through an Edmonton based law firm, should help move the legacy project forward with additional gifts from concerned citizens and stakeholders. “It sets a high standard of giving for a project critical to habitat in a sensitive location,” says Ecotrust executive director, Pat Letizia.
These partnership donations are important to match or boost the federal government’s contribution of $5 million towards an environmental legacy for the Bow and Kananaskis Valleys. “This gift meaningfully demonstrates how important the ecological integrity of the Bow Valley is to people in this community, and the wildlife crossing structures are a practical solution that people can relate to,” says Greg Belland, Manager of Partnerships for the G8 Legacy.
“Alberta Ecotrust and the G8 Legacy team are pleased to be partners in this project and hope to contribute more significantly to projects that enhance these valley ecosystems for many years to come,” adds Letizia.
All of the dollars received will contribute directly to the conservation of wildlife and wildlife habitat in the Kananaskis/Bow Valley corridors and will be managed apart from the ongoing grant program at Alberta Ecotrust.
