Alberta Ecotrust creates the “Kananaskis Summit Environmental Legacy Fund”

Canada is hosting the G8 Summit on June 26 and 27 in Kananaskis. From the beginning of this announcement, many Albertans expressed concern about the environment surrounding the Summit.

On Sunday, June 9, 2002, Canadian Heritage Minister Sheila Copps announced that the Government of Canada is contributing $5 million towards an environmental legacy for Alberta. This donation will be used to create a Wildlife Ecology chair at the University of Calgary and a wildlife crossing bridge over the Rundle Canal in the town of Canmore.

The federal government hopes to raise additional funds for these projects that will contribute to the future of wildlife and wildlife habitat in the Kananaskis/Bow Valley corridors. As a partner of this initiative, Alberta Ecotrust Foundation has created the new “Kananaskis Summit Environmental Legacy Fund”. Donations to this fund can be made directly to Alberta Ecotrust.
