Environmental Grants

Our Grant Programs

Since 1992, Alberta Ecotrust has invested more than $5 million in projects that have improved the health of Alberta's environment. Our annual investment has increased from $126,000 in 1992 to a current average of $400,000.The heart of Alberta Ecotrust's work is supporting the people and projects that effectively address Alberta's most pressing environmental issues. We accomplish this primarily by making grants to Alberta organizations and individuals working on solutions-oriented projects.

We have several granting programs:

Community Grants

Community grants support community-based projects that typically focus on local opportunities for change through stewardship and action. These projects must be completed in one year. Maximum grant amount is $7,500. Deadlines are April 15 and October 15. More

Major Grants

This program is designed to support more comprehensive projects that have the potential to result in substantial environmental benefit. The application process is more comprehensive and will be undertaken in two parts. These projects must be completed within a year. Maximum grant is $30,000. Deadlines for Letter of Intent are February 15 and August 15.  More

Multi-Year Grants

The Multi-Year Grant is on hiatus. We will not be accepting applications for the 2012 year. Multi-year grants support more comprehensive projects with distinct phases that are conducted over a longer period of time. Maximum grant is $60,000, to be distributed over a maximum term of 3 years. More

Youth Environmental Stewardship Grants

The YES Grant is on hiatus. We will not be accepting applications for the 2012 year. The Youth Environmental Stewardship (YES) Grant Program was created to help Alberta's young environmental leaders (age 16 to 26) turn their dreams for a cleaner, healthier future into a reality. YES grants provide up to $5,000 to a single project undertaken by an individual or group of young people who are passionate about making their world a better place.  More

Strategic Grants

From time to time, Alberta Ecotrust will invest directly in people or projects that are effectively improving environmental health in Alberta. We do not accept applications for these strategic grants. Instead, we solicit applications from successful organizations that are making a real difference in protecting the environment in Alberta.
