Environmental Grants

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can we apply to more than one grant program per year?

Yes, provided you are applying for separate and distinct projects.

2. Can we apply for support for an ongoing program?

Yes, provided your organization can demonstrate the effectiveness of the program in addressing one of the three environmental priorities.

3. If we are successful in securing a grant, when might we expect to get the first cheque?

For all grant streams, the first cheque can be sent to you once your organization has signed and returned a contribution agreement. Each of the different grant streams has a specific grant disbursement system.

4. If our organization is not registered in Alberta, can we partner with an Alberta-based organization to implement the program in Alberta?

Yes, providing they fully accept the responsibility for completing the project as outlined in the application and accept the financial and reporting requirements outlined in the contribution agreement.

5. What type of financial reporting do you require?

The financial reporting is different for each of the grant streams. Basically, the reporting is simple for the Community Grant program and more rigorous for the Major Project or Multiyear grants.

6. How does Alberta Ecotrust prefer to be recognized publicly for their support?

All grant recipients will receive guidelines outlining our recognition and acknowledgement criteria. By recognizing our contribution you help raise the profile of Alberta Ecotrust, which in turn increases opportunities for future environmental support.

7. Will we get an interview with the Alberta Ecotrust grant review team?

Only groups invited to apply for Major or Multiyear grants will have an interview with members of the Grant review committee and staff of Alberta Ecotrust Foundation.

8. If we are asked to submit a complete application for a Major Project or Multiyear grant are we likely to be successful in receiving a grant?

The new two-phased approach to the grant process involving a Letter of Intent should increase the likelihood of being successful if you are asked to submit a full application. However, all proposals do compete for a limited amount of dollars.
