Treasurer Required for Innovative Environmental Foundation

The mission of Alberta Ecotrust Foundation is to build partnerships throughout Alberta between environmental organizations, corporations and others who support environmental action to: fund and support effective grassroots environmental projects; build capacity and sustainability in the voluntary sector; and promote the environment as the foundation of a healthy community.

The foundation is highly regarded as a community leader and nationally recognized as a unique and innovative model of environmental collaboration supporting the need for social change.

In operation since 1991, our charitable foundation has achieved many benchmarks of success and has a strategic plan for growth. If you are motivated by the importance of environmental stewardship and excited by the opportunity to provide financial leadership to an award winning and nationally respected organization, you are an excellent candidate for our financially savvy team.

Alberta Ecotrust requires a Treasurer to oversee the financial management of the foundation. The Treasurer will serve as an officer on a policy governance board and provide guidance, oversight and support to management, staff and the board in financial matters. The foundation utilizes a simple fund accounting format. Staff performs and maintains the daily accounting, banking and other financial transactions of the organization governed by a sound set of financial policies in accordance with Imagine Canada’s Ethical Fundraising and Financial Accountability Code.

As an Officer of our volunteer Board of Directors the Treasurer will:

  • Ensure that Alberta Ecotrust financial statements are accurate, clear and meet the high standards and needs of donors, stakeholders, regulators, auditors, and the partners of the foundation.
  • Provide financial guidance to the board and staff as needed to ensure that our financial policies and practices meet the regulatory requirements of the Canada Revenue Agency, GAAP (with a preference for knowledge of the non-profit standards in GAAP), and Imagine Canada’s Ethical Fundraising and Financial Accountability Code as follows:

Financial Reporting

Ensure that all financial reporting obligations are met and that the foundation is in the best position to financially support the growth, development and delivery of our charitable mandate; oversee the development and review of financial performance indicators and report them to the board; present quarterly financial statements to the board

Financial Planning

Ensure the design and implementation of gift acceptance and investment policies; assist the board in developing a long-term financial strategy
